Alberto Rubio-Tapia, MD, is Assistant Professor and Associate Consultant in the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Mayo Clinic Rochester.
Dr. Rubio-Tapia received his medical degree from National Autonomous University of Mexico. He also conducted his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition 'Salvador Zubiran'. He then went on to conduct his fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology, where he was Chief Fellow. From 2006 to 2009, he did Postdoctoral Research Fellowship granted at Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education with focus on celiac disease research (Mentor: Joseph A Murray). Dr. Rubio-Tapia is a Clinician-Investigator (Internal Medicine/Gastroenterology) at Mayo Clinic Rochester.
He is candidate for Masters of Science Degree in Biomedical Sciences - Clinical and Translational Science granted by Mayo Graduate School. His principal research interest is celiac disease (gluten sensitive enteropathy).
Dr. Rubio-Tapia has received the National System of Researchers Award (Mexico, SNI-II) 2013, American College of Gastroenterology Governors Award for Excellence in Clinical Research 2011, American College of Gastroenterology Auxiliary Award for Best Scientific Paper 2010, Mayo Clinic Outstanding Research Associate Award 2010, American College of Gastroenterology Junior Faculty Development Award 2010, Ruth L. Kirschstein National Service Award (Allergic Diseases) 2008, FASEB/MARC Award 2007, JSGE/American Gastroenterological Association Award 2007, and the American College of Gastroenterology International Training Grant 2006. He is ACG Scholar and member of the American Medical Association, American College of Gastroenterology, and six other professional societies.
