Jennifer Phan, MD, is a board certified gastroenterologist with specialized training in advanced endoscopic procedures. She completed her gastroenterology fellowship followed by an additional advanced endoscopy fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she was awarded multiple teaching awards and initiation into the ACG Young Physician Leadership Scholars Program. She is trained in the diagnosis and management of pancreaticobiliary diseases through use of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), removal of large polyps through endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), and deep bowel evaluation and therapy via single- and double-balloon enteroscopy. In addition, she also performs ablation/resection of Barrett’s esophagus, transoral incisionless fundoplication (TIF) as an endoscopic alternative to anti-reflux therapy, endoscopic suturing for fistula/leak closure, endoluminal stenting, and therapeutic EUS for gallbladder drainage and gastrojejunostomy. Dr. Phan also has special clinical and research interest in the endoscopic management of obesity and associated metabolic disorders such as diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. She performs placement of intragastric balloons, endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG), gastric revision procedures for patients with weight regain following previous bariatric surgery including transoral outlet reduction (TORe) in patients with previous Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and sleeve revisions in patients with previous laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. Her research focuses on studying the efficacy and safety of bariatric endoscopic procedures in patients with underlying liver disease, diabetes, and in safety net populations as a means of effective long term weight loss.
