Manoop Bhutani, MD, FACG, is a tenured Professor at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, where he is also Director of Endoscopic Research and Development. He is a Fellow of the ACG, ASGE, ACP, and AGA. His major research interests pertain to gastrointestinal endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound including interventional endosonography, utility of endoscopic ultrasound for gastrointestinal cancers, role of endoscopic ultrasound in evaluation of pancreatic tumors and pancreatic masses, endoscopic ultrasound for cancer staging, experimental studies using endoscopic ultrasound and endoscopy for image guided targeted drug delivery, and development of new imaging modalities for gastrointestinal tract and cancers. He has received many awards including Best Doctors in America and America's Top Gastroenterologists. He serves or has served on numerous national committees, and most recently, chaired the ACG International Relations Committee. He has received multiple research and education grants during his career. The World Scientist Forum has awarded Dr. Bhutani the "Eminent Scientist of the Year 2008" International Award in the field of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy. He has published more than 125 original, peer reviewed scientific papers, invited editorials and reviews, 20 book chapters, and 14 letters to the editor. He is the author of a multimedia production on teaching endoscopic ultrasound. He has more than 150 scientific research presentations (with published abstracts) at national and international meetings to his credit. He has written or edited 5 books. He is a member of the editorial board or a guest editor for 15 scientific publications. He has been a course director for many national educational courses. He has given >100 invited expert scientific presentations at international, national and regional level. Dr. Bhutani has served as a member of the advisory panel to the Center for Devices and Radiological Health, Gastroenterology and Urology Devices Advisory Panel of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. He has been invited as a visiting professor to many universities within the US. He has provided mentorship in endoscopic research to junior faculty as well as fellows including many visiting research faculty from other countries. Dr. Bhutani has been involved in performing live endoscopy courses in Latin America, Europe, and Asia to teach endoscopy to local gastroenterologists in those parts of the world. In summary, Dr. Bhutani is regarded as an international researcher and expert in the field of gastrointestinal endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound with major focus of his research on gastrointestinal cancers.
