Nikhil A. Kumta, MD, MS, FACG, is an Associate Professor of Medicine and serves as the Director of Interventional Endoscopy for the Mount Sinai Health System, Director of Surgical and Bariatric Endoscopy, and Program Director of the Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship training program at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Dr. Kumta trained in Internal Medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital - Weill Cornell Medical Center. He remained at Cornell for fellowship training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology, during which time he served as Chief Gastroenterology Fellow and also obtained a Masters Degree in Patient-Oriented Research from Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health. He then completed subspecialty fellowship training in advanced endoscopy, surgical endoscopy, and bariatric endoscopy at Cornell before joining Mount Sinai. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications on all aspects of GI endoscopy ranging from outcomes data in ERCP and therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound to new innovations in surgical and bariatric endoscopy. At Mount Sinai Hospital, Dr. Kumta has been the recipient of numerous clinical and classroom teaching awards.
