Linda Nguyen, MD, FACG, is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at Stanford University, where she has served as the Director of the Neurogastroenterology and Motility Program since 2008. Dr. Nguyen completed medical school at University of California, Los Angeles David Geffen School of Medicine, followed by residency and fellowship training at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, CA. Her clinical and research interests include gastroparesis, functional dyspepsia and irritable bowel syndrome with a special interest in visceral hypersensitivity and autonomic dysfunction. She was a member of the NIH/NIDDK Gastroparesis Clinical Research Consortium from 2007-2016. Her research includes understanding the role/impact of physiologic testing on clinical care, exploring novel therapies for gastroparesis and expanding the role of neuromodulation in the treatment of GI motility disorders and pain. Dr. Nguyen is also passionate about quality of life (patients and physicians) and turning the tide on physician burnout. She currently serves on the Stanford WellMD committee, the Diversity & Inclusion Committee for the Department of Medicine, and is faculty lead for a Department of Medicine Making SPACE (Wellness, Mindfulness and Meaning-Making in Leadership) group. She is also interested in understanding overlapping conditions such as chronic fatigue syndrome and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome as it relates to pathophysiology and impact on symptoms and outcomes. As part of this interest, Dr. Nguyen has served on two ad-hoc committees for the National Academy of Science (Institute of Medicine): “Development of a Consensus Case Definition for Chronic Multisystem Illness in 1990-1991 Gulf War Veterans” and "Health Care Utilization and Adults with Disabilities."
