John DiBaise, MD, FACG, received his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and his Medical Degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He then completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Iowa and a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where he remained on faculty until 2005. Since then, Dr. DiBaise has been a consultant in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona, where he is currently a Professor of Medicine, Co-Director of the GI Motility Laboratory, and Medical Director of Clinical Nutrition. He is board-certified in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. His main clinical and research interests involve the broad areas of intestinal failure, nutrition support, gastrointestinal motility disorders, and the role of gut microbes in the development of obesity. Dr. DiBaise has served as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator on a number of research grants and contracts has authored and co-authored many articles and book chapters, has edited several books, and has given numerous national and regional presentations. He is a member of several professional societies, a reviewer for a number of journals, and serves as Associate Editor for The American Journal of Gastroenterology and on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.
