Thangam Venkatesan, MD, is Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition and Director of Neurogastroenterology and Motility at the Ohio State University (OSU). The primary focus of her clinical and scientific work is cyclic vomiting syndrome (CVS) and cannabis use in CVS. Her CVS program has served patients from all over the U.S., Puerto Rico, Canada, India and other countries. Dr. Venkatesan serves as one of the Chief Medical Advisors to the Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome Association (CVSA), a non-profit organization that supports patients with CVS. She also collaborates with other non-profit organizations such as the International Foundation of Functional GI disorders (IFFGD). She has authored several key papers and book chapters on CVS, and is senior author on the first-ever guidelines on the management of CVS (Guidelines - management of CVS), a collaborative effort between the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society and the Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome Association. She is routinely invited to present at various international conferences such as Digestive Diseases Week snf Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society meetings, as well as the ACG. She is also involved in multiple key clinical trials and studies in CVS with many exciting advances in the pipeline. Dr. Venkatesan was Program Director of the GI fellowship at her former institution and has mentored several students, residents, fellows and faculty in her career. On a personal note, she is an avid gardener, meditation instructor, loves to spend time with family and friends and travel. She is also committed to equity and diversity and addressing health care disparities in health care and academia.
