Cynthia Moylan, MD, MHS, is Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Duke University and is a member of the Duke Cancer Institute. Her research focus is on epigenetic, genetic, and metabolic pathways of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and hepatocellular carcinoma. Dr. Moylan serves as principal investigator on several, large, multi-site, NIH sponsored studies investigating risk factors associated with the development and progression of cirrhosis and the impact of environmental exposures on NAFLD, cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. With the help of a talented, mutidisciplinary team of collaborators, she hopes to identify novel mechanisms of disease and biomarkers in order to improve identification and prevention of chronic liver diseases like NAFLD. Dr. Moylan is also Director of Hepatology at the Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center where she cares for patients with chronic liver disease and liver cancer. At the VA, she sits on the NAFLD Field Advisory Board. Her training includes receiving a Master's degree in Environmental Health Sciences from Harvard School of Public Health and a Master's in Medical Genomics from Duke University.
