Philip Okafor, MD, MPH, FACG, is a general gastroenterologist and health services researcher in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Mayo Clinic, Florida. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at the Boston University Medical Center and his Gastroenterology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He is an Associate Editor of Evidence-Based GI, an American College of Gastroenterology publication, an editorial board member of ACG Education Universe, and a member of the ACG Education Affairs Committee. He is most passionate about mentoring underrepresented minorities interested in gastroenterology and is a recent winner of the DREAM (Digestive Research and Education Excellence Aimed at Minorities Research) Award for research and education excellence. His research interests focus on identifying drivers of high/low-value care; identification and mitigation of disparities in access, outcomes, and resource utilization among patients with gastrointestinal diseases.
